Elizabeth Mayton
Elizabeth Mayton is an Atlanta-based artist and educator. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Art History and Visual Arts from Emory University and a Master's of Education in Deaf Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Elizabeth is known for her vibrant colors, florals and continuous black flowy lines present in her paintings. Through the florals, she expresses her love for nature and gardening, but painting is also a way for her to express intense emotions as seen in the bold colors and dark contrasts in her work.
Elizabeth always had an affinity to the visual arts and while her deafness impacted her ability to express herself verbally, creating enabled her to share her thoughts. "When I paint, it is a lot like gardening; they both are a messy process and I am always excited to see how they develop. It never always goes as planned, and that is what makes it fun and satisfying."
